Nature-based solutions are inspired and supported by nature and use or mimic natural processes to contribute to the improved management of water. They can be deployed to address water challenges related to surface water quality, groundwater quality, floods and water scarcity. Nature based solutions can contribute to water resources management by improving water availability, improving water quality and reducing risks to water related extreme events.
Such processes include:
- soil moisture retention and groundwater recharge
- natural and constructed wetlands
- riparian buffer strips
