An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) is considered as a planning tool to assess and predict potential negative social and environmental impacts in relation to groundwater development projects with a particular focus on considering suitable mitigation measures to maximise beneficial effects and minimise adverse impacts on the environment.

Therefore, ESIA plays an important role in the safeguarding and sustainability of groundwater development and ensuring groundwater quality for drinking purposes.
